about

Mid-State Orange are Louis Richter, Ryan Merry, Justin Hamilton, Tim Spelman and Jonathan Edmonds. They played guitars, bass, drums, Casio, Fender Rhodes, Yamaha organ, tambourine, shakers and made woo-hoo-hoo sounds on this record.

Additional players were Isobel Knowles and Gus Franklin (the Rhinestone Horns), who played trumpet and trombone on 'Summer in Disguise', Ned Collette played moog on 'Losing Time' and Secret Day.

Tracks 1-4 produced and engineered by Gareth Parton. Recorded in Melbourne, Australia, at The Bakehouse Studios, Fitzroy. Mixed by Gareth Parton and Mid-State Orange at 001 Studios, Collingwood.

Track 5 recorded by Darren Garth at Deluxe Sound Studios, Middle Park.

All songs mastered by Marcus Barczak.

ORIGINAL BLURB FROM 2003...

Another handful of brilliant, wistful pop hits, Summer in Disguise was captured onto tape by UK studio-wiz Gareth Parton (The Beta Band, Mojave 3, Paul Weller), and is further evidence that Mid-State Orange are producing some of the most assured and infectious pop music that Melbourne has the good fortune to call its own.

The title track is a pulsating pile-up of cleanly strummed guitars and wah-wah wigouts keeping the pace with some absurdly hyperactive drumming. Louis Richter’s plaintive vocals float above the whole heavenly blast of sunshine, while even extra sparkle is added to the mix by Architecture in Helsinki’s fabulous Rhinestone Horns. The result is a little like Stereolab on a sugar rush.
